Have you ever looked at the massive collection of items you have accumulated in your attic or garage and wondered what to do with them? If the thought of throwing everything out has crossed your mind, you may wish to reconsider that option. Instead, it would be a much better plan to have a yard sale. This way, you will not only help those items find a good home, you will also be able to earn a few dollars on the venture. However, some might consider such a venture to be a daunting one but it does not have to be. Simply following five simple tips will ensure your yard sale goes off better than you ever anticipated. And here they are:

1. Grassroots Marketing: Have you ever seen any signs on local telephone poles promoting a local yard? More than likely, you have surely seen such signs many times. The reason these signs are so common is because they work. After all, if no one knows you are having a yard sale, then you are not going to have many attendees. By hanging several signs in the neighborhood, you will surely draw in a number of curiosity seekers. And, for that matter, it would also be a good idea to place flyers on local community and grocery store bulletin boards. This will surely draw in many people as well.

2. Free Online Classifieds: A free online classified advertisement would also be a huge plus. Many people scan local classified for news and updates on local sales in their neighborhood. Such ads will greatly raise the exposure of your yard sale. Then, there is also another huge positive to this type of sale. It is free! Yes, if you are looking to earn a few dollars with your yard sale you will also want to cut back on costs associated with it and a free classified ad will certainly cut back costs.

3.  Organized Presentation: When you do actually hold the yard sale, it would be helpful to spread the items across several tables. Remember, you do not want anything you are selling to appear cluttered or piled on top of one another. This not only makes a bad impression, but it will also visually impair the buyer’s ability to see what you have for sale. Conversely, an organized series of tables can put your items in the best possible light and make them easy to sell.

4. Price to Sell: The pricing on your items should be both fair and simple. Avoid prices like $1.98 because you will find yourself handing out a lot of pennies in change! Instead, keep the prices in 25 cent increments as this will make figuring out the total cost on a number of items a lot easier.

5. Prepare for the unpredictable: Try to place all the items for sale under a cover of sorts. This could include a canopy or other such tarp. Unfortunately, the weather can be predictable and you do not want any of your yard sale items ruined buy rain or possible faded by excess exposure to the sun. In some instances, even a decent sized beach umbrella could effectively handle the task.

Often, it is the little things that can improve a venture. Following these few simple tips can certain increase the odds that your yard sale venture will occur without a proverbial hitch.
