Welcome to This is Union County.com. We thought we should use our first entry to give a general overview of the site and to freestyle some of the frequently asked questions. Its long, and a little convoluted, and maybe one day our editor will take the time to organize it a little better. Then again, maybe not.
So what is this site about?
This is Union County.com is a classified site which focuses on Union County, NC. Users can post, search and view any subject matter including:
- Jobs. Hiring? Tell us! Looking for a job? Let us know
- Items for sale/Trade: Cars, homes, old cds, tickets, that thing that’s been sitting in your garage and you’re not sure what it is…. Whatever!
- Services: babysitting services, auto repair, legal, etc.
- Deals and Specials: if you are a shopper and find a great deal, tell us. If you are a business owner and are running a great special, let us know.
- Heads up! This is a great section for general announcements. New businesses, announce it in the paper and here too!
- Community: Is your church having a special something. Tell us!
Why should I post my ad here? My business already advertises.
All small businesses know that free, targeted advertising is the best advertising- and this site is targeted to the folks in Union County NC. Plus, at This is Union County.com, you have a shot at interacting with potential customers. For free.
You can advertise in the paper, you can hand out business cards or flyers; you can lease a plane to pull your banner across the sky- or rent one of those wiggly blow-up dolls. You can do all of the advertising you want, and you can post your ad here on This is Union County.com online, free.

So what are the limitations?
See our terms of use: . But basically, no cussing, abusive behavior, Act like a grownup with some sense and you’ll be just fine. Oh, and you have to reside, or do business in Union County, NC. Otherwise, go to EBay or Craig’s List, or something.
So how do I contact someone if I want to buy their stuff?
We recommend email as the first line of communication. But you might decide that you want to meet with someone face-to-face. Use common-sense safety precautions because we cannot be responsible for your personal safety.
What if the stuff I buy sucks?

Do you get a cut of every transaction?
No. we don’t even know when the transactions are made. You make the transaction, you figure out. We just sit here, looking pretty.
How long till my ad expires?
30 days. After that, you will have to submit a new one.
What are announcements?
If you have something you think other people should know, announce it! For example:

What’s with the blog?
We figured we’d keep it interesting, current even. Plus it seems as if everybody’s doing it, so…

What is Twitter?
From Wikipedia: “Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to send updates (otherwise known as tweets) which are text-based”
Ok, so what will you use that for?
Real time updates. If you see something you want other people to know about, then let them know- immediately. It can be something as simple as:
- “The Wal-Mart on 74 just got a whole new shipment of Wii’ here but they’re going fast!”
- “There is a bad accident here on Rocky River, and were backed up for miles—don’t come down this way!”
Is there a charge for this?
Not by us or Twitter. But standard text messing charges by your cell phone company may apply.
Is there a charge for posting or viewing the site?
No, there is no charge for posting or browsing. It’s all free.
Do you accept paid advertising?
Currently, we are not accepting paid banner ads. This may change in the future. We will however use Google’s Adsene and encourage all webmasters to consider it for their arsenal.
